The HERSTORY of HOH
The number 1 girl band in London From Gym Shoes to Jimmy Choos
From Gym Shoes to Jimmy Choos
Where to begin? From launch to date High on Heels has taken dancefloors the world over by electrical storm, the calibre of our clients as sky high as our Louboutins. Brainchild of headlining, international female DJ Miss Kelly Marie, aka MKM, our all female music collective is home to the most exclusive artists in the world, its roots firmly grounded in quality, collaboration and authenticity.
With a decade of DJing around the globe already under her diamanté studded belt, in 2002 Kelly was playing for Hed Kandi when she met vocalist, Martay, and the singer DJ girl duo hit it off. They started producing tracks together and, when Kelly played them as a DJ live, London party people went wild for the sound. Kelly persuaded Martay, who was taking a break from music, to perform live again and, as they began to PA London town together, the bassline rumblings of funky success were unleashed.
Internationally acclaimed and going all the way
Kelly was excited by the vibe this new female DJ live show seemed to create. Martay and other live female musicians such as Lovely Laura on saxophone or Pav on percussion, who had embellished her sets with such energy over the years, were all the inspiration she needed to officially form High on Heels – a lyric taken from one of her tracks – and the global explosion began.
From New York to Norway, Finland to France, Italy to India and Bali to Beirut, High on Heels have played the planet, facilitated each other’s passion, growing closer as a crew and driving the masses euphoric with electrifying live entertainment London style. We’re a UK girl band of a different sort; a tight knit, talent-driven team of the best girl musicians London can speak of.
The London Party Band of your Grandest Dreams
Are we a function band ? Sure, if you call Chelsea Football Club’s ‘Players of the Year’ a function, or the time we officially opened an island in the Maldives. A corporate band ? A corporate client once described us as the ultimate party band so yes, we are also no strangers to the official office party, not to mention the most stylish wedding band London has to offer. But High on Heels is so much more than just a gigging band – it’s an experience – something special. Our female musicians are of the highest calibre working in the industry today, each one of us at the top of our personal games. Our women truly rock and we’re really serious about that, about quality. It’s all about the music. Whether Richard Branson, Samsung or Ministry of Sound, our clients know us as a talented and organised outfit, delivering a performance that is unrivalled, every time. Producing all our own tracks means our sound, whilst remaining universally recognizable, is also totally fresh and unique. Classic covers weaved through cool Ibiza beats, horn sections that raise the roof and vocalists who will take your guests to another dimension, whatever their age or musical taste. People jump at our gigs, literally.
The rise of HOH has been meteoric but the feeling is not just upwards, it’s outwards too. Many of the girls have used their time with us as a stepping stone to go on and self achieve to incredible heights which we love. Congratulations to Martay who is currently on the West End stage with a lead role in Lion King, Kelli Leigh who, as well as being Adele’s backing singer, has had her own Top Ten chart success and Shan Ako, who made it to the live shows on X Factor, is back from her X Factor tour and will be on stage with us again soon – to mention just a few successes.
We are ever expanding as more mind-blowingly brilliant artists cross our paths and join the family. Today, because there is so much amazing talent in the mix, we can play several continents on the same night. You could think of us as the music or DJ agency London girls are proud to be part of.
As a DJ music is Kelly’s life, her passion. Same for all of us. Being from a musical family, to play with other musicians around her was a gift, a treat and the collective is an incredible, super slick, organically grown extension of her love for music and musicians. It was born from passion. It remains that way today.
